Book report for Launching Leaders

Launching Leaders opened my eyes in some ways and honestly was an answer to prayers in some ways. The book starts off by expressing how we as humans are in some ways destined to be entrepreneurs and that the act of creating a business is founded in the sound principles of the Gospel.  It then goes on to teach principles that help potential entrepreneurs know some of the steps to work towards on their journey. It also discusses why starting a business as a millennial is a good idea and how as a business owner it helps make sure that millennials enjoy working for you and put in their best efforts. I hope that this report helps explain some of the things I have learned.

Leading up to this course I had been having almost a crisis of faith trying to understand how being a busy business person can possibly fit together with being a true disciple of Jesus Christ. I felt like there would be contradictions in being able to serve the church effectively and have a successful business but this book helped me to see that that doesn’t need to be the case at all. In the first chapters of the book it and the concluding chapters outline that a business person is someone who has high values and wants to help others with their business and by starting a business and having success allows them to serve in other ways. That those who work a “normal” or “9-5” job. This was exciting to be because it helped me to connect my desire to be an entrepreneur and my values.

I really liked how the book in the early middle chapters the book expresses and explains attributes that an entrepreneur should have or develop in order to be successful. It discussed the importance of having mentors and how they will help you to see the potholes of life and that having people to support you during the journey is so important. I am so grateful for the people I have met in life and the experiences that I have had that have taught me that people are very willing to help others. With only some expectations I have not been turned down when I have asked to learn from someone about their profession. I plan to continue to do that in my life and put myself out there and ask for help when I need it. I also read many books and make historically notable people my mentors through what they have written and how they lived. The book explains we need to be people of integrity and that we cannot live a double life. I hope to continue to work on this in my own life and be open with my shortcoming and not be tempted to hide them from others. I think that the principles taught in the book are very well summarized in the analogy he talks about in a later chapter talking about the Redwood forest. He expresses that the red would start from a strong seed, have goals, and reach toward the sky, they have a support system where the roots intertwine with the other trees in the area. Then goes on to explain other similarities which I will leave for you to read yourself.

Near the end of the book, the book talked about how to manage your finances and helps you have an idea of how to conduct your finances so that it doesn’t because too large of stress in your life. It talks about the importance of a tithe to a church or organization, saving for a rainy day, and investing in your future. It is very sound advice that goes is in alignment with what the church teaches in its self-reliance courses. I plan to budged and use my money more effectively.

The book talks about millennials and how we, I use that loosely since I am technically younger than a millennial, have seen our parents and grandparents work for companies feeling like they did not value them as people and just gears to turn the machine. We have learned from our parents and want to feel a part of something. We want to feel like we are making a difference and that our contribution matters. This is why so many are going down the path of entrepreneurship and will start businesses that really help people and are fulfilling. This is also something to take into consideration as a future employer you must help young people feel like they have a purpose in their work and make them a part of the business. With so much contention and confusion in the world, young people are looking for their tribes and want to be a part of a group that does something bigger than themselves. Understanding this helps you understand your customers and employees.

Thank you for reading. I would highly recommend this book and am so grateful for the things I have learned while reading this book.
